TWO MOVIES ON MUMBAI BLASTS
By Eye TV India Bureau In the News
Incidentally, July 11th (falling tomorrow) is the second anniversary of the ghastly tragedy of the Mumbai blasts that killed 187 people and injured over 500 Mumbaikars. This reminds the latter about this terrible shock of their lifetime. That's why the filmmakers of Bollywood have chosen to produce not one but two movies on the subject. The two movies are 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' and 'Ruslaan'. Both deal with the emotional, social repercussions on people from different walks of life in the aftermath of serial train blasts that rocked Mumbai two years ago. The first one 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' is under production and scheduled to screen on August 22nd. 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' is based on the story as to how such tragedies affect people (directly or indirectly) and how they fight their way back to lead a normal life. The movie shows this through the eyes of Soha Ali Khan who plays the pivotal role of a woman journalist in it. The film features Irfan Khan, Paresh Rawal, Madhavan, and Kay Kay Menon among others, and is being directed by Nishikant Kamat.
The second one is titled 'Ruslaan'. This is the story that deals with people's perception and their impact on the life of innocent bystanders, who become victims of such terrible tragedies. In particular, the film deals with the repercussion on a Muslim family in the aftermath of the blasts. Ruslaan leaves home in a happy mood and as he boards the train, he receives a call and there are series of blasts. Ruslaan is picked up for questioning by the authorities. His character is played by Rajveer Sharma. The rest of the cast includes Megha Chaterjee, Asrani, S M Zaheer, Smita Jaykar, Ganesh Yadav, and Shabnam Kapoor. This is scheduled for release in October. The filmmakers wish to remind the longtime impact on the victims including innocent people of such horrible blasts in the hope that the people wouldn't allow such elements to operate in society.
